Steve Coffey is Chief Research Officer at The NPD Group. He is a frequent public speaker and academic lecturer, and has published articles on research methodology in the Journal of Advertising Research, ESOMAR Proceedings, and the Journal of Interactive Advertising.

Mr. Coffey is a twenty-year plus industry veteran, with expertise covering media and marketing research methods and practice, accumulated at The NPD Group, A. C. Nielsen, Media Metrix, and The Pillsbury Company. A nationally-respected specialist in research methodology, strategy and analysis, he is best known for designing and implementing innovative research products, many which have been granted US patents. Mr. Coffey co-founded Media Metrix, the internet audience ratings firm in 1995, while heading up the Advanced R&D group of The NPD Group. While at Media Metrix, Mr. Coffey was responsible for the firm’s research methodology, implementation, and product design. Previously Mr. Coffey created other new market research technologies: A. C. Nielsen’s in-home scanning panel in 1989 (as vice president of data collection), consumer purchase panel service in Mexico City, and a breakthrough single-source magazine audience product purchase measurement service. Mr. Coffey is on the Board of the Advertising Research Foundation (the ARF) and is past Chair of the Research Committee.

Mr. Coffey holds a Masters degree in business from Columbia University in the City of New York.
