Dr. Tuen-yu Lau is the founding director of the professional Digital Media Master’s Program at the University of Washington, which focuses on content creation, management and policy. An expert in international media management, Dr. Lau’s dual career in academia and industry spanned 20 plus years, including professorship and research conducted at universities including Stanford, UCLA, Purdue, and Hong Kong, as well as senior management positions at leading media and I.T. companies in Asia.

Dr. Lau has held fellowships at the American Press Institute, the Poynter Institute, and the International Radio and Television Society. He was a senior advisor responsible for the launching and managing of a new digital TV network, Indosiar Visual Mandiri, in Indonesia in the 1990s, which has become a market leader in the world’s fourth most populous nation. In 1999, he also was involved in the management of a listed hi-tech company in Hong Kong that has a focus on the Internet, new media and telecom in Greater China and Silicon Valley.

Dr. Lau has a Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 1991, having earlier earned his M.A. in communication from Stanford University in 1982, and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1978.
